“I am not going to sell you anything today.” Then, “In fact I don’t work with a lot of the businesses I speak to. I am pretty expensive and I only work with companies that are ready for explosive growth. So today is just so I can get to know your business.”

I look for the following:

• Does the company have a USP? Does every employee, vendor, customer know their USP? Is it integrated in all their advertising?
• Do they meet and greet their customers properly?
• Do they answer the phones properly?
• Is the staff courteous & helpful?
• Is the staff trained to handle sales properly?
• Are they priced properly? I always want my clients in the Top 25% of pricing. We will offer better service, warranty, bundling of product, etc.. to meet the customers expectations of price.
• Is the company marketing enough products?
• Are they UP selling, Cross selling, Down selling, bundling products, maintenance agreements, etc…
• Do they have a website?
• Does the site Convert prospects to buyers?
• Does the site need to be redesigned?
• Has the company claimed their Google Maps?
• Are they located in the Major Vertical Directories?
• Do they have any Soc Sites like Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, etc..?
• Do they accept all Methods of Payment?
• Are they doing any Joint Ventures? Any other alliances?
• Do they belong to any Organizations to help promote business, Chamber of Commerce, BBB, Local charities, etc…?
• Do they have a powerful Guarantee?
• Do they have the proper work hours? Could you separate yourself from others by being open sooner or longer than other businesses?
• Do you make it easy for customers to Buy from YOU? Do you offer financing, easy payment terms, all credit cards, PayPal, Google checkout, etc…?
• Are they doing any Press Releases?
• Have they gathered Testimonials and are they using them in Print media?
• Are they using any Celebrities to endorse their business?
• Are they using Centers of Influence to get more business?
• What Profit leaks is in your marketing? Are they Tracking results?
• Are they Tracking the conversions of Prospect to Buyers?
• Do they know the LTV (Lifetime Value) of a customer? This allows them to spend the maximum upfront to acquire an Initial customer.
• How are they doing Customer & Prospect follow up?
• Are they using Newsletters?
• Do they have a blog?
• Do they have regular email campaigns?
• Are they Maximizing ALL media? Are they doing every single media that offers a ROI of 1-1?
• Have they created Sister sites?
• What is the average ticket size?
• How can it be increased?
• Is the client utilizing his customer database?
• How does the company treat their best customers?
• Are they doing any Direct Mail campaigns?
• Are the premises clean, their vehicles, bathrooms, etc…?
• Do the employees wear uniforms, do they have a dress code?
• Have they researched the competition?
Then we talk about these…..

Why should I be working with you?….

Question I just asked a business owner about work she needed done with her marketing!

Ms Business owner, “If I could show you a way to cut the Fat & Waste from your marketing budget and at the same time Increase your sales by 30%, you would be interested wouldn’t you?”

Ms Business Owner; Show me how you could justify ME giving YOU a $4,997 set-up fee plus $1,497 per month (starting in 30 days) 12 month agreement. Total price is $23,000.

I want YOU to show me what you could do to “Cut the Fat & Waste in my Advertising budget and Increase my sales.

In addition, I want to see ALL the Benefits to your plan even if I just break even with your fees vs my increased profits and the end of 12 months.

This will be the scenario: I get a lot of these.

Service type (repeat biz) business: Dentist, Carpet cleaner, Pest Control, Plumber, HVAC, etc… Mom & Pop type biz

Gross Sales: 1.2 Million in 2008, decreased to 1.1 Million in 2009, down more in 2010, sales have Flat-lined. Incorporated for over 5+ years. Has 4 employees, spouse works part-time helping out.
• Client has a nice website, ranked page 3 Google. Her domain listed Page 3 Google is her entire Internet presence.
• Advertising/Marketing budget per year is roughly 5% of sales $50,000
• Spends 80% of her advertising budget ($40,000 year) on Yellow Pages
• The balance of 20% ($10,000) is spent on Spray & Pray type marketing
• Has a database (Names & Addresses only) of 2,000 past & current customers
• Gross Profit margins are 25%
I implemented the exact case for a client back in Oct 2010. The fee structure was a little different. $20,000 paid over a 6 month period. A Minimum of $997 to $1,497 dependent upon the services the client wanted at that time for continuing consulting. I can tell everyone the client is extremely happy with the results in only 3 months. She has given me (3) referrals since we met..

BTW, the client is one of the above categories.
• Create a Google/Yahoo! Local Map listing (FREE)
• Get your client listed in the Vertical Directories (FREE)
• Set up AWeber, write a few auto-responders (Client pays)
• Now place a Lightbox or email capture on their website (FREE)
• OnPage SEO (Title tag, Meta tag cleanup will suffice, FREE)
• Free Press Releases (scribble something and post it up, FREE)
• Free Blog
• Free Twitter account
• Write some Free Atricles and post to Ezine (FREE)
• Have the client call his Merchant account and Print email capture on every receipt. Customer can get “Preferred Offerings” Great for any Restaurant and Retail stores (FREE)
Do you realize doing the above will SUBSTANTIALLY increase their sales to the tune of at least 10-20% (Minimum) if worked properly?

These are LOCAL co’s, do NOT confuse with National SEO marketing products, info products, etc…

A small company doing $40,000 month/500k year could increase sales in 12 months to $50,000 month/600k doing very simple marketing.

I think that maybe many of you don’t realize the Power of Google Maps, On page SEO, and Aweber.

I could get a setup fee of $997 and $297 month for the above package in my Sleep. I currently get $5,000 to $10,000 setup and $997 monthly for doing the above EXACT steps. Don’t forget I TARGET the right businesses. Yet a small restaurant/retail shop etc… can afford $997/$297 all day.

They can’t afford NOT to. I dare anyone to debate me that a business can’t increase their sales by 10% using an Auto-responder. No website, no on page seo, no google map, etc… Just an auto-responder….
Everything needs to pay for itself. The amount I charge is largely determined by what their transaction size is and how I make the case that they are going to make the money back.

Some examples…

New windows pay for themselves after X months because of the savings in your energy costs.

New pots and pans will pay for themselves because now you can cook at home instead of eating out 3-4 times a week.

Etc.

In our case, like I have (and others) mentioned before, if you charge them $25,000 a year yet you make them $100,000 you are essentially free. It didn’t cost them anything.

There is even the argument that it would cost them money if they DIDN’T hire you.

The old “you can’t afford not to do this”.

So make what you’re selling “free”. Make your fees are self funding. SHOW THEM how in X amount of months they will make X amount of dollars so it’s actually not costing them anything to hire you.
My average client pays me a $10,000 set-up fee and $1,497 per month. Minimum contract is 12 months. Approx $30,000 first year.

I do a lot of “Infrastructure” work first. Most here would probably not like it.

I develop a comprehensive marketing plan. USP, train sales staff, train secretaries to answer incoming calls, write copy for Yellow Pages, direct mail, set up AWeber, autoresponders, build new site/blog or update their current site, Animoto video marketing, Google Local, Vertical Directories, Press Releases, 1 on 1 coaching, group teleseminars, SEO, etc…

My best client pays me over $10,000 per month, set-up fee was $25,000.

My smallest client paid me $3,000 upfront and $497 per month.
They are family owned. Sales range from 1- 7 Million year.

I just signed a 1M in gross sales to a $30,000 year contract.

The 7M company is the one I’m getting over 10k month.

I know going in what I can do for a company. I have a general idea what % I can increase their sales in year one.

I’ll give you an example how screwed up companies are. I signed a 2M per year company for $55,000 year one, $3,497 thereafter per month. The 1st thing I had them do was ANSWER their phones with a REAL person instead of going straight to Voice-mail.
Their sales immediately jumped 1M dollars. That’s right, I knew before we met what their real Achilles heel was.

I can easily take this company to 4 million in sales without doing any real work. I am seriously considering doing away with Fee based services and only pursuing deals where I receive a % of the increase in sales.

I don’t work with Public companies, Franchisees, etc…

All privately held, most are doing 1 to 5M per year in gross sales.
In answer to your question about what happens when they hit #1…. We solidify and maintain the position and target the next key phrase.

I also provide consulting around offline direct response marketing, referral programs, USP development etc- however these will all be treated as a separate project and they are quoted as such.
I OFTEN work with HIGH margin businesses. High margin businesses are ideal for the offline world.

One of my clients is a Cosmetic Surgeon. I advertise for Boob jobs, $4,000 per boob. Doctors cost is $1,000 per boob. We found the LTV (Lifetime Value) of a boob job is $20,000+

After a woman has a boob job, she normally gets a Tummy tuck. After the tummy tuck, she then get’s a face-lift followed by wrinkled neck surgery.

If I get him 1 boob job per month he makes money.

The more boobs he gets the better I look. LOL!

1. Because of my experience. I know in advance what will happen when I make changes. Like when Tigers wife found out he was cheating with hookers. 99% chance she’s gonna dump his a$$ at least temporarily, and he won’t be getting lucky with her.

2. Last 2 years Audited CPA statements that were filed with IRS. I get to see all the books.

I NEVER talk about SEO, NEVER. I tell the client I will create a powerful online presence with Virtual Real Estate that they own.

I give my clients HOPE.

With 99% of all my new clients, I rarely do any so-called Internet stuff for at least 2 months. I spend the Majority of my time fixing in-house problems. I generally increase sales by 20-30% in less than 90 days.

Recently I had a client go from 2M to 3M in one day (on an annualized basis). Yep, one day. That client pays me 55k a year.

Managing Expectations with a Client is very important. I don’t talk about percentages. 100% of ALL my clients within 90 days all say “Wow, I had no idea this system would work so well.”

I literally had a client tell me that yesterday afternoon while I sat in his office. He said “I had no clue you were going to do all this work. You went above and beyond anything I had imagined. If you ever need a reference or a testimonial, please have your prospect call my office.” I thanked him and went about my business. This client cut me a check 60 days ago for $10,000 cash and pays me $1,997 per month. Ya think he’s gonna leave me? Client told me his sales were up 15% in less than 7 weeks. His sales had been crashing for 10 previous months.

The only so-called thing that all business owners would be concerned about in regards to what I did for him with his so called Internet stuff was the following. Created Google Local Business Center, got him listed in Vertical Directories, changed his Title tag, and that’s about it. 2 hours work.

He told me his Internet sales were way up, lol. I was sitting in my chair laughing inside when he made that statement. I did almost nothing. Wait until the Tsunami that’s coming hits. The 15% sales increase came as a result of me convincing him to increase his prices, change the way he handles accounts receivables, and I trained his receptionist and sales staff. That’s it.

I make my own list. I use a combination of the Yellowpages, Google search co’s on page 3+ (the wanabees who have yet to make it), Chamber of Commerce and the BBB (great for getting owners name)

I then mail using the “Dunning Mailer method” Google it.

Letters go out, drive visitors to website, site does all the heavy lifting (video, long sales copy, free report, etc…) site then gives prospect my Phone number. Original letters have no phone numbers, client must go to site.

Client calls me, live person answers, operator tells them I will call back within one business day.

I call client, tell them what I do and who I am (refresh what video said) then I ask a LOT of questions. I tell them they need to Qualify.

If I think the client is good for MY BUSINESS then I send PDF or fax the Questionnaire.

Client completes, faxes back. I Google them, their competition, and whether or not I can help them. 90% I can help. If I like them and they fit my Ideal client then I will work with them.

I am Interviewing THEM, not the other way around.
Why should I be working with you ?…. Question I just asked a business owner about work she needed done with her marketing!
I am the Ringmaster, the Guru. I am the only one who can turn their business around.

Client writes check for $5,000 – $25,000 for Initial setup, and then pays me a continuity fee on average $1,497 to $2,497 per month, 12 month minimum.

Take a business selling $3M annually at a 40% GP margin. If you increase their sales by 33% then you have increased their sales by $1M.

How can you increase their business by 33%?

-increase their number of leads by 10%
-increase their conversion rate by 10%
-increase the lifetime value of each customer by 10%

Through the miracle of compound interest, this is a 33% increase in sales.

Do you think if you grow a business by $1M they would have any trouble
sharing $20K with you? LOL!

If we are really talking about the marketing consulting business, tons of stuff can be done on retainer + commissions so long the business owners can justify their profit margin.

Example:
• USP
• Lead generation systems
• Referral systems
• Risk Reversal
• Upselling systems
• Client retention systems
• JV systems
• Internet Marketing systems
And for Internet Marketing Systems break down:
• All the above 7 systems can be implemented into IM
• PPC
• SEO
• Database marketing
• Online Brand Management

Some of these SME offline business are getting pitched 10,20 or 30 thousand dollars website and 5,10,20 thousand dollars a month maintenance.

We find a client that is spending a lot of money on advertising (i.e. yellow pages, print, TV)

Then we give them a marketing campaign that works and you will be happy to pay us 5 or 10k per month for a 2-20 times investment.

Understand some real marketing and get back to basics.

We are not selling you SEO, we are offering you more customers, higher profits and less costs.

Having the proper mindset is crucial to success in any kind of business.

What sets the Michael Jordan’s and other great ones from the average athlete? You guessed it mindset!

When I am talking with a business owner/decision maker, I am very confident that I can help them.

Prior to arriving, I have done my homework and know that there is no doubt that I can help them improve their bottom line.

Here’s an example:

On December 30 I had a telephone appointment with an attorney who was looking to start an information business based on a skill set that he has.

He wants to sell his business opportunity to those individuals interested in starting a business from home.

So, I started by telling him that I can help him…however, I don’t work with every business owner and at the end of our talk together, I will let him know if I would work with him.

Then I proceeded to tell him the one hour of my time that I will use to go over the Interview Form.

Would normally cost him $1,500, which is my true hourly consultant billing rate. (I am just setting the tone for the close that will happen at the end)

After going through the interview questions, I determined that I could help him build his information business through setting up a marketing funnel, developing a backend product, developing a lead-gen product. (One of the methods that he wants to sell his products is with seminars. One of his problems is that his price point is very low for a 1-day all content seminar…$295 and he does not have a backend product to sell the attendees in order to increase his profit margins.)

And the final thing that I mentioned to him before telling him the price and closing him was…what will he do if I don’t work with him. (Think about it…if I was selling SEO services or website design services, then he would say, I can go get someone else to do it)

In this case, he said out loud that I was amazing and that he could not build his business without me.

This contract will end up being a $50,000-$100,000 contract. (Not bad for an hour conversation)

The major point is that it all started with my mindset or positioning which brought value to the table.

Consulting companies have been doing this – providing marketing services to companies for phenomenal results – both for the consulting company in sales growth and business valuation for the partners – and for the client – the company actually sees an ROI…one ‘small’ consulting company I worked with in the 90s went from 4 ‘founders or partners’ and sold out for tens of millions to deloitte and touche just a few years later…

This is a hot industry to be in! (now you all know I’m biased since I’m in it yet heck – it is so low risk, low start up capital for you)

…the basis for many a closed multi-million dollar engagement with a Fortune 500 (and they did get bigger ROI from it)

…is the same for selling to a mom and pop or Small business owner -

What’s in it for them – how much do they need to invest and when will they see a return.

One client of mine who paid $5k upfront, $2k per month – over the last 12 months have seen a measurable over $600,000 return on that investment (Darn – should have negotiated a 25% override on increase in sales on that one!)

Mindset – can you charge four, five figures – YOU BET!

Another client of mine, a large bank, got quotes for banner advertising and graphics from their LA ad agency – $50,000 – my quote – $10,000 and I still profit wildly!

Ad agency’s are charging those prices – no kidding! And my target customers out there need me!

One student of mine recently had a doctor he contacted tell him what he just paid for his website that got him NO results – $100,000 – yes you read right!

Think about what their customer life time value is – and price your services accordingly for what you I do – I do far more than just SEO services etc.

You can project your business plan on numbers like that as it take a few months to train up your staff or ‘find the right ones’ – so you can concentrate on

1. client relations
2. selling (being the ‘rainmaker’ or hiring rainmakers)
3. quality assurance
4. Strategic planning

Are you aware that Craigslist gets more than 40 MILLION unique visitors every month?

Did you know that Craigslist is the #7 most visited English language website in the world?

Did you know that Craigslist has over 50 MILLION users in the United States alone?

The fact is, people in your area are turning to Craigslist when they are ready to buy. And if you’re a local business owner with something to sell or a service to offer…and you’re not advertising on Craigslist…you’re leaving an absolute ton of money on the table.

We offer a high-quality, low cost service that has been proven to bring you a surge of new business from this virtually untapped advertising resource. We’ll make you an attractive, full color advertisement and post that ad several times a day so that you get maximum exposure to your business.

You may know that Craigslist only allows you to post one ad per day…yet my team of “computer geeks” have found away around that and they are able to post anywhere from 10 of your ads daily to as many as you want. This ensures your ads are always close to the top of the search results…which results in more customers and more sales to you.

So…what makes our service better?

• Our ads stick longer

• No ghosted or flagged ads

• Any ads that are not still live within 24 hours are reposted

• We’re an American company (no language barriers)

• I’m the owner and if there is ever a problem or concern, you speak to me directly

(and I take care of business)

• All ads are hand posted-no spam software used

• We follow Craigslist TOS

Tired of posting your own ads? Need more time to focus on your business? Let us handle your craigslist postings. We can post your ads in virtually any category in any amount you want. These are hand-posted ads, guaranteed against ghosting/flagging. They will be live 24 hour minimum.

Paying too much for your craigslist ads?

Are language barriers getting in the way of your effectiveness?

Are your ads being ghosted or flagged?

We offer a comprehensive, low-cost alternative to high ad prices and ads that don’t stick. We charge just per post…and we guarantee our ads to stick!

The simple fact is, people are on Craigslist and they are looking for goods & services in their local area. Craigslist is and always will be a BUYER’S MARKET.

If you’d like a free trial so that we can prove this new surge in business, please give me a call at: (215) 964-8505

Hi everyone, I hope all is well.

My firm, Online Publishing Group is offering extremely generous commission packages to anyone that refers us to a new client. You DO NOT need to do any selling for us; just get us a meeting and we’ll take care of everything else. We do all the selling; you just sit back and collect.

The commission will be 10% of the first year’s ENTIRE contract. So for example, if your referral signs a 6-month contract for $2500 a month, that’s a $1,500 check made out to you, UP FRONT. In another example, a client could sign a $3,500 per month contract for one year, that’s $4,200 in commission!

If you are an employee of a firm and you refer your boss, we will STILL pay you a commission (and your commission agreement is kept CONFIDENTIAL!)

WHAT WE DO:

Our firm specializes in Digital and Internet marketing. Our clients DO NOT need to have a website to make use of these services:
-Google Optimization (Getting to the first page of national and local Google searches for certain keywords)
-Google Local Listings
-Social Media Marketing (Designing a fanpage and rapidly gaining thousands of fans on Twitter and Facebook every month)
-Email Marketing
-Mobile Application Design (iPod/iPhone/iPad/Android)

These methods lead directly to more business for our clients and pay for themselves within months.

PLACES TO LOOK FOR REFERRALS:

Friends / Family with new or growing businesses
Doctors/Dentists
Your clients or the clients of your firm
Your own firm

If you think you know anyone who’s business could use these services (that’s essentially everyone) then please get in touch with me to discuss how we can arrange a meeting.

Some of my favorite lines and rebuttals:

“SEO isn’t the future, its the present. Anyone not doing this is already behind”

“Google’s research shows that 1 out of every 5 of the 16 billion Google searches a day is in regards to a local business. How many of those are looking for your services?”

“SEO has the highest ROI of any form of marketing.”

“Social Media marketing is the single most personal form of marketing there is. 500 million people are on Facebook, can you really afford not to be?”

“Research shows that 82% of new customers research a business online before making a purchase decision. Do you even know where your business is in the Google rankings at all?”

“SEO is a cumulative process. If you start now, by the time your competitors catch on they’ll already be months or years behind you. And they’ll have to spend thousands to catch up. On the other hand, if you wait…it could be you playing a desperate game of catch-up”

“How about we do a free analysis of your site, and then we’ll take it from there. Does that sound reasonable to you?”

Again, I hope all is well.

Sincerely,

In this article, you’re going to discover how to make Big Money in Record Time with These 3 Simple Article Marketing Tips.

If you have a business, then the key to success lies in generating presold traffic to your business-website/s.

Some simple article marketing tips will make a world of difference if you are looking to make any money at all online. Article marketing can be one of the easiest and most profitable ways to earn, yet without guidance you could be wasting your time. Make sure you’re going about it the right way with these tips…

Tip 1

The first thing to think about is to learn to write effective articles. This is the most fundamental point, so sit down and consider why you’re writing the article and what you want the ultimate outcome to be. If you want the visitor to read the article then visit your site, work on different methods of achieving that.

Tip 2

The next tip is to make sure you’re sending your visitors to a page that converts traffic into sales, or subscribers. You can have the most effective articles in the world yet unless the landing page does its job, you’re wasting your time. Probably wasting a bunch of good traffic too!

Tip 3

My last piece of advice concerns scaling things up. It’s relatively easy to write a couple of articles and make a few affiliate sales from them…yet for some reason most people never get past that. Once you reach that point, you need to turn the whole thing into a process if you can. Automate it. Churn out articles and landing pages like there’s no tomorrow. Even just a few months of doing this can provide you with a serious income…

These article marketing tips will definitely point you in the right direction if you want to make some real money from your article marketing.

In small towns, medium sized cities and large metropolises all across the nation, SEO experts known as “Search Engine Optimizers” are coming to the rescue for business owners in almost every niche market imaginable.

How? By optimizing their websites to show up on the first page of Google, Yahoo, MSN, Bing and other popular search engines across the internet. There is a HUGE percentage of the market that is known to search Google for almost ALL of their products, services and needs.

With that said, you can see why making businesses show up on Google for certain keyword phrases can make the business owner consider the SEO to be nothing short of a modern day hero!

By landing an organic Google search result or multiple results… thru SEM-SERP-SEO-and our specialty, traffic through written stories, articles and quality reports which will remain online about your business for years if done right.

A website can get thousands of hits per day from targeted customers who are searching for exactly what the website is offering. Some business owners are still on the fence about internet related stuff, yet there is no need for that in 2010!

People having been doing their private banking and paying bills online for years now… So, anyone that is still skeptical of the internet needs to get with the times!

If you have a business, you need a website. If you have a website (or once you do) you are going to need people to visit that website. Not just any people though. Someone looking for car tires is not going to care much about your website that sells trading cards.

That’s where the “optimizing” comes in. A website needs to be “keyword optimized” so that it can show up in relevant searches. Business owners can select to pay a fortune in PPC (Pay per Click) advertising costs if they want to be a “Sponsored Ad” on Google, yet that still doesn’t get nearly as much exposure as an all natural result and it costs a lot more!

Research has shown that 86% of all internet traffic is generated through the search engines. This means that trying to get your web to site show up on the top 20 positions where millions of web pages are often competing for the same keywords can be a real challenge. Organic traffic is your best bet.

Without these “techies” where would businesses be? Still relying on the good old Yellow Pages and other various paper directories and websites… Whereas instead they can now generate the same traffic from their own website, by simply performing a task that should be performed to every website as a standard part of its development. We should all be thankful for the work that they have done and for what they have shown us is possible for any business of any size or caliber to achieve.

What can YOU do in the next five days
to begin treating customers like gods?

Some questions to ask yourself …

1. “Do my promotions tell the truth, the whole truth and NOTHING BUT the truth?” Ask any soft-offer marketer and he’ll tell you: Promotions that create unrealistic expectations for the product invariably result in lower pay-out on the back-end.

Hard-offer marketers know that over-the-top promises result in much higher cancellation rates and much lower response to secondary sales and renewals.

What can you do to narrow or better yet, eliminate the gap between your promotional promises and the reality of the benefits your product or service delivers … or even better yet: Deliver MORE than your promotion promises? Under promise-over deliver!

Could you, for example, add extra unadvertised premiums to your welcome packages or product shipments?

Promise 12 issues of your newsletter a year, yet include last month’s issue – a 13th – in your welcome kit … or schedule a timeless “Whoowah Bonus Issue” to hit new customers’ mailboxes two weeks after they come on board?

Maybe insert an unadvertised gift certificate offering a substantial “welcome aboard” discount on something your prospect wants?

Perhaps just send an unexpected free report or other inexpensive gift to every subscriber or customer before Thanksgiving “just because” you’re thankful for them?

2. “Do my promotions begin the bonding process with the new customers they create?” Do you position yourself or your spokesperson as an advocate who has a greater, higher vision for your prospect than he has for himself?

Do you demonstrate this by giving away valuable, actionable information or advice in your promotion?

What insights into your spokesperson’s life can you give away that make them feel more human, more like the prospect in their harmless little foibles, loves and values, therefore creating a friendship right off the bat?

When selling subscriptions, I avoid saying things like “When you subscribe …” Instead, I say something like “When you join me in …” On the order form, instead of calling my product a “subscription,” I call it a membership.

What could you do to position this initial sale NOT as a sale, yet as the beginning of a beautiful friendship?

3. “Does my product/service over-deliver on the benefit claims made in my promotion?” Goes without saying: If the product/service is faulty, fix it. If it can be improved, improve it.

Then, do this: Order a product or service from yourself, for yourself. Do it by phone so you get the live experience of dealing with the customer service rep. Throw up roadblocks.

I once called a client’s toll-free number and said I wanted a three-year subscription to his service. “We don’t sell three-year subscriptions,” they said. “Just one-year and two-year subscriptions.”

So I asked if I could buy a one-year subscription and a two-year subscription and have them run consecutively. That really ticked her off. “I’ve never heard of such a thing!” she said.

It was all I could do to resist crawling through the phone and telling her how great she was.

So challenge the operator and take notes. Then, when the welcome kit or first shipment arrives, note how long it took to receive, then go into a room alone. Get yourself into the frame of mind of a new customer who has been anxiously checking their mailbox every day, hoping to get your product. Then open it.

How do you feel? What are your first impressions? Are you bowled over by the quality and quantity of what you see inside? Do you feel closer to the company and/or its spokesperson? Does the experience leave you looking forward to your next contact with the company?

Then, even if you answered “yes” to every question above, get your best people together and spend a day brainstorming how you can make that experience a truly memorable one – in a good way.

4. “Do my people go the extra mile to make customers feel like part of the family?” Time for some more fun. Try calling customer service. How many times does the phone ring before someone answers? Are you put on hold? (Scribble, scribble!)

Have a complaint. Be angry. Be insulting. Take copious notes.

Then call back with a gazillion questions. More notes.

Try telling the rep about your cat. Still more notes.

Then, call with a big compliment. You guessed it – getting writer’s cramp yet?

Then, have a “come to Jesus meeting” with your reps and set them on the straight and narrow.

5. “Does each customer file-promotion contain a component that strengthens the bond with your customers?” I tell my clients that every promotion sent to existing customers must do two things: 1) It must, of course, produce profits, and 2) It must make the customer feel greater allegiance and loyalty to the company and/or its spokesperson.

More importantly, no promotion should ever produce profits at the expense of the relationship we worked so hard to establish with our customers. When max short-term profits and max bonding go head-to-head, bonding must always win.

6. “Am I doing everything possible to retain customers that complain or cancel?” A client of mine spends $24 to generate each new customer. Does it make sense to spend less to keep one?

That $24 could buy a LOT of tender, loving care for an irritated or disappointed customer! It could easily cover an outbound telephone call, a FedEx package with a $10 “I’m so sorry!” gift enclosed – the sky’s the limit!

Take a look at the process canceling customers go through and brainstorm everything you can think of to keep them in the fold. Think outside the box.

How about a “Hell NO!” letter to canceling subscribers: “Hell NO, I won’t cancel your subscription – the help I have for you in coming months is far too crucial to you! I’ve already refunded your subscription – that’s one thing. Yet denying you the critical guidance of our services is another. So please accept the next three months with my compliments …” You get three more months to win your disgruntled customer over.

Submitting valuable stories and content, and then sharing it in a niche community, is an excellent way to create a positive presence in the world of social media, yet there are some specific steps involved when publishing on the web. SEO-friendly content is not the only way to develop a presence, as there is an element of interacting with community members involved as well.

Yet why is social media so important in your everyday business and marketing efforts? What role does it play in reaching your target market?

These are both questions that many website owners and businesses ask, and determining the effectiveness of social media will be a part of your internet marketing strategy.

Social media offers the latest roundup of online technologies that is based on the concept of community. Sharing opinions, posting comments, participating in discussion boards, and simply exchanging media files are all facets of social media on the web today, and social bookmarking and networking are just a couple of these online activities.

Knowing how to develop your website so that it is conducive to social media applications can help you interact with your customers in a variety of new ways, and ultimately, lead to the traffic levels you desire. Increased traffic is a necessary result of innovation, and attractive websites that encourage user interaction are making the business of marketing much easier.

Collective intelligence is leading the wave of sharing information based on specific keywords and subjects, and can help marketers and business owners in many ways. Today’s social networking sites are incorporating many social bookmarking elements into the platform. This allows users to learn even more about each other, and is engaging people online by building communities, opening up new networking channels, and giving marketers and business owners a chance to track behavior.

Discovering and sharing information with keywords in specific topic is what allows social bookmarking networks to grow; as more information is provided, the categories of interest also develop to provide key information.

In many ways, social bookmarking is considered to be a form of collective intelligence.

Collective intelligence based on a few trends in the marketplace, news, or other information can provide very important data to a third party observer. Filtering data has become even more important today as it provides insights and information on direct experiences with many of the goods and services available in the marketplace.

Social media is quickly becoming one of the web’s fastest growing online activities, a place for customers in a variety of markets and niche communities to learn, educate others, and interact with other buyers. As a result, it is in your best interest to track and gauge different patterns. Consider social media a major channel to accurately gauge your customer’s interests, tastes, and preferences.

Each contributor is essentially volunteering testimonials on products, likes, dislikes, and other information that was once only available from direct market surveys or interviews. Social media platforms offer you some insight on what the customer truly wants at any given time.

Developing your website so that it uses at least two to three of today’s leading social media technologies can help boost traffic with less and less direct marketing efforts.

Building a network of like-minded users and visitors is the basis of Web 2.0 applications on the web today, and social bookmarking is just one element of this growth. Web 2.0 sites are based on a few key principles that encourage interaction and sharing information with ease.

By using tagging and breaking down information into keyword structures, everything is organized in a way that makes it easy to search and find specific information. From blogs to shopping sites, Web 2.0 has allowed new, media-rich applications to serve as platforms for all users. Sites such as Digg.com, StumbleUpon, LinkedIN, ThisNext, and dozens of others are building communities and creating networks.

Web 2.0 is essentially doing what market research departments have been working on for decades; filtering information on consumers, and segmenting the market. Market segmentation is an essential part of consolidating demographic information, and has often been compiled through surveys, focus groups, and other market research initiatives.

Web 2.0 allows many marketers to simply skip these steps; if your consumer market is voluntarily sharing information about their tastes, preferences, and other ideas through social bookmarking channels, it becomes much easier to learn and develop new tactics to keep them engaged.

Many industries can gain significant insights and information from experimenting with social bookmarking and networking tools.

In addition to the marketing and branding benefits of participating in a social bookmarking network, there are other benefits involved. The following metrics can be generated as a result of ongoing participation:

• More Traffic – writings and submissions posted to social bookmarking sites can be tracked easily

• More Profits – customers that are continuously participating in a specific genre or community are more likely to simply buy something through this portal or channel. This gives rise to increased revenue

• Higher Search Engine Rank – determining how well a specific product is doing becomes much easier as it reaches the high ranks of a specific community

• Reduced Costs – social bookmarking and marketing on the web offer the added benefit of reduced costs. Businesses are more likely to reach a wider audience with minimal effort

The old ways of conducting market research and finding out more about target markets and customers are long gone; with today’s web tools and freely distributed information, tracking down the target market and identifying new trends has become much easier.

It’s interesting to compare and contrast the old and new ways of marketing on the web.

When website and internet marketing first became effective, the most common applications included:

• Surveys
• Online newsletters
• Direct e-mail campaigns
• Auto responders
• E-mail collection services
• Visitor feedback through comments

With the surge in Web 2.0, blogging, and a higher level of interaction on the web, the focus has shifted to interaction and community building. As a result, the most common applications for marketers on the web today include:

• Blogging
• Social networking
• Wiki-style site building
• Online chat
• Vlogging
• Online events
• Social bookmarking networks

By seeing exactly what consumers are looking for online, a business or marketing team can even increase their own exposure in the right channels. Branding by increasing exposure is an excellent way to cut costs on marketing budgets; social bookmarking is an inexpensive way to simply ‘insert’ and include a brand in a growing consumer activity.

It’s easy to attract and maintain a steady presence by using the following guidelines when developing a submission:

• Make the content easy to read and understand
• Offer useful tools
• Use keywords
• Make the best use of tagging so users can find information with ease

A business using this will not only position themselves within each of their relevant channels on social bookmarking sites, yet can also work on presenting themselves professionally after learning about their target market.

Tracking the target market has commonly been done with parsing technologies and only possible after collecting large amounts of data based on surveys or other input. Many of these research studies are conducted by costly marketing departments, and can take months and even years to consolidate.

However, tracking down a target market is worth the effort; finding out exactly where potential customers are, learning about their buying habits, and attracting them in new ways of interaction with a company, can help improve brand presence and create a shift in consumer behavior.

With social bookmarking sites, the information about consumer behavior and preferences is readily available. Social bookmarking sites that create a community based on preferences pave the way for reviewing trends, patterns, and basically learn what the market is interested in at any given time.

Reviewing independent profiles and trends on a regular basis can make trend forecasting much easier. It can help with identifying market leaders, and learning first hand from the consumer about feedback on specific products.

What this means is that the marketer or business can create unique valuable content and products to send to various social bookmarking sites. Once they create a valuable presence, it becomes much easier to influence the decision makers in each and every community. This is the essence of social bookmarking and networking at its best; community building can create a network of influence that can now also be enjoyed by marketers and entrepreneurs on the web.

Creating and publishing stories or reports is the easiest and one of the most effective ways to market your business on the internet. Not only can you get your message in front of a large number of people very quickly, you are viewed not as a marketer yet as an author which gives you credibility and your message a greater acceptability.

Just like any other message, it needs to be “found” by your prospect, read, of interest and then leading them to a natural action which you direct them to.

First things first. Whenever you are writing anything, you must first identify your audience and then identify with your reader. It is most enjoyable for a reader to read something that is “speaks” to them as though it were written just for them.

Your writing needs to be interesting, especially in stories. Now don’t make the mistake of thinking that what you write your story about has to be dry, just because the article directories tell you that your report can’t be an “advertorial”.

You can be lively, have fun, and be interesting. Just don’t make what you write so dry that you lose the reader’s interest, out of fear of sounding “salesy”. You have something to say here, so go ahead and say it!

Besides, in your story you want to raise the reader’s awareness to their need, and then talk about how the general solution is the way for them to go. In your close, you’ll be directing them to a specific solution.

You can be somewhat indirect if you want, if you have a particular spin on how you get to the punchline.

For example, you could make your story about increasing sales conversion, talk about how it takes multiple exposure to get most prospects to buy, and then have it all tie together at the end with how a good series of reports will help them increase conversion with the follow-ups.

The main thing is that you want to identify the various needs of your prospective reader, and then look for the various ways that your solution helps address their needs. This can generate interesting topics and titles.

The flow of your marketing message within the report is to get their attention with a helpful headline that sparks their curiosity and interest, then in the body of the report, raise their awareness to the problem at hand and the general solution to it, focusing benefits of the service in general. Your blog post is where you’ll make the natural connection from the general solution to the specific solution you’re recommending.

The first part: Creating your report

Briefly, here are the components of a great report

• A compelling and intriguing headline that includes at least one of your high-traffic primary keywords

• Tagged with the right keywords

• Content that that is interesting and enjoyable to read.

• A short closing paragraph containing a summary of the content and reinforcing the need for the service.

• An “Author’s Bio” (A.K.A. the resource box) where you’ll include the link to your blog post.

• Some directories also like for you to have a 2-5 sentence summary that is different from the beginning of the article.

• Submitted to the right category.

Let’s look at each of these components and make this easy to do.

The Headline (or title of the article)

The headline is by far the most important part of your story. It is the intro by which people are going to decide if they look at anything else. You’ll want to include one or more of your tier-1 or broad keywords in the title.

To make this really easy, I’m going to give you some of the things that I’ve used successfully (including using pen names for some of your stories). For now though, simply go to http://ezinearticles.com/ and run a search on one of the keywords from your short list.

You should have in front of you a list of recently published articles. Click on any one of them. Scroll down to the bottom of the article.

Now scroll down below the article and you’ll find three lists that correspond to the category that the article you’re viewing is in. Note the category.

The first is the list of recently published articles in the category.

The second list contains the most viewed articles in this category over the last 90 days.

The third list contains the most published articles from the last 90 days.

You can take or leave the first list, yet pay attention to the second and third. In these two lists, you have 30 of the most popular articles from the last 3 months! You can see directly what it people are paying attention to! Cool!

You would do well to look at the other categories that your article might be submitted to. See what the headlines are in those “most popular” lists.

Headlines

Take a look at the headlines that are found most popular. You should see some patterns and characteristics that give you clues to good headlines.

For example:

Numbers are usually good in headlines.

Tips, things to avoid, things to look for.

Questions can also make good headlines

Here are some examples:

“How to Increase Your Sales by 20% in Three Simple Steps”

“3 Things to Avoid When Writing Follow-up Emails”

“Should You Host Your Own Email Follow-up, or Use a Service?”

“Are Email Follow-up Services Cost-Effective?”

“5 Must Have Qualities of a Good Follow-up Service”

“Is Lack of Email Follow-up Costing You Sales?”

Your headline ideally will intrigue the reader enough that they want to read it.

The Keywords to Use

Here’s a little trick I discovered and it’s one of the reasons that I love EzineArticles.

While you’re viewing an article in the category appropriate for you to submit to, go to the list of most view articles below the main body of the article you’re reading.

Open NotePad, save the file with a name like “follow up services keywords for articles.txt”.

Click on the first article in the list of most viewed articles over the last 90 days.

In the body of the article, Right-click and then select “View Page Source”. If you look a few lines down, you’ll see the keywords that the author used to tag this article.

Copy and paste those keywords in to NotePad. Close the window with the page source.

In your browser, go back to the list and get the keywords for the other articles in the “Most viewed” list and the “Most Published” list.

Now when you look at these lists of keywords, you should see some keywords that are common to almost all of them. These are good keywords for you to use to tag your articles with. You should have 3-10 keywords that have been used in all of the most popular articles.

Between this list and your list from your research at SEODigger and WordTracker, you now have several good keywords to use. Focus on these for your tags for the articles and for use in the headline and the body.

There is a term called “keyword density” which means what percentage of your article words are keywords. There are many different opinions on this, yet you’ll be safe with 2-3%. In clearer terms, if you have a 500 word article with a 2% keyword density, you’d use your keyword(s) 10 times throughout the article.

You do want some keyword density, yet make sure that it still reads well. Don’t get so carried away that it sounds like rubbish!

The Content – what your report says

There are several themes that you can use, yet make sure of a couple things in writing your story:

• It should flow decently, particularly from the headline, all the way through to the close where you have your call to action.

• Whenever you mention features, tie them to the related benefits.

• The article is to fill a specific part of our overall flow.

• In the article, you want to address the problem-problem part, leading into the problem-general solution. The blog post will address the specific solution to their need.

Different themes you can use (with your target reader in mind, of course)

• “What is XXX and is it something to consider?”

• Comparison of using the service versus doing it yourself.

• Mistakes that people make by NOT using [the service you’re recommending]

• Tips to making XXXX more time/cost efficient, easier, etc.

Again, these are some suggestions, yet there are numerous examples of what is being well received in the “Most Viewed” and “Most Published” lists at ezinearticles.com.

Generally, you can include:

• The benefits of the service (not the company) you’re marketing

O How the service will save them time

O How the service will save them money (in terms of the value of their time)

O How it will allow them to increase their sales

O How it will allow them to increase their productivity

O How their lives will be easier and more secure

O How it will protect them from problems

• The downsides of NOT using the service you’re marketing

O How much it costs your prospect to not have it

O How it makes life more challenging by not having it

Again, you want to speak to your reader and their wants and needs.

The Resource box or Author’s Bio

This is where you have your call to action to send people to your blog post. It will be at the end of the report and you want to make it compelling. Use curiosity, humor, or again, just plain a natural step for the reader to take at the end of your article.

The story body is focusing on the problem the reader has, and you flow into the general solution (the service you are recommending). The close is where you can lead into the review or comparison between specific solutions that logically follow the article.

Later on, you’ll want to offer them a freebie at your site – this is a great way to get people to click on through!

Getting Your Story In Front of Thousands of Prospects

The simplest way to get your articles in front of thousands of people is to create an account with us.

With your account, we can submit your articles to about 30 directories and numerous sites and mailing lists. This is a partial distribution list and later on, you will sign up for our full distribution service to really get your article widely distributed. Our full list goes out to about 500 directories.

Are you tired of paying for advertising and marketing that doesn’t provide an adequate ROI? Traditional forms of advertising, typically known as “interruption marketing”, rely on a very small percentage of it’s audience to respond and, hopefully, convert into customers.

Hoping for a 1%-2% response from your marketing efforts is simply unacceptable, in our view. There are far more effective methods of reaching your audience, so that your message will only be viewed by individuals who are highly targeted and interested in your products or services.

More importantly, once your message is in front of the correct audience, it is critical that you present your company to them in the proper way. Inundating your target audience with advertisements and conventional marketing methods will have extremely limited results (if any).

It is vitally important that you reach your target audience through methods that they will appreciate and value.

We are a Publishing & Media Distribution firm. We specialize in providing highly targeted, optimized campaigns for our clients.

We begin each client relationship with identifying the objectives of your campaign. Unlike the majority of Publishing & Media Distribution firms, we do not utilize a “one size fits all” approach. We recognize that each market, niche, and sub/micro niche has unique characteristics. We are sensitive to your market’s individuality and we will customize an approach that will be consistent with these unique qualities.

We strongly believe in not only letting our clients know what we are doing for them, but also why we have selected specific approaches as well. While many firms downplay the importance of keeping their clients “in the loop” on certain details, we encourage an open dialogue with all of our clients, so that you will understand the big picture strategy, as well as the finer points of the methodology that we are implementing for you.

While we implement highly sophisticated strategies for our clients, we also pride ourselves on being your friendly advisor, when it comes to discussing your needs. We would be delighted to speak with you to learn more about your company and share some ideas on how we can help you reach your goals.

While we provide highly customized and diversified campaigns for each of our clients, we’ve included a general overview of the services and strategies that we offer.

We utilize a highly efficient, two-part strategy for properly getting your message in front of the correct audience. First, we use a proprietary method for identifying how your audience is searching for you. We also consider other key metrics, such as competition levels, to better understand your market. We refer to this first step as the “Market Research” phase.

Once we understand these essential metrics, we develop and distribute media that will be consistent with the data that was identified during the market research phase. We appropriately refer to this second step as the “Development & Distribution” phase. Both elements of this two-part strategy work in concert with one another. Specifically, as the metrics derived from the market research data change, so will our Development & Distribution strategy.

In addition to this two-part strategy being a highly effective method of reaching your audience, it is also a client-friendly approach, as it allows you to have a greater level of clarity, when it comes to understanding the logic behind the strategies that we implement on your behalf.

We invite you to contact us through the method that works best for you. We give you our personal assurance that your information will remain confidential and will never be shared with third parties.
